In February, the municipal sector in Niagara survived a few chaos bombs and local controversies that had an unexpected end. Queen’s Park announced governance changes that will affect Niagara and more are likely with Nomination Day for elections coming soon.
Public sector workers have been stuck in a very strange Petri dish of what great leadership looks like when it’s under pressure. I was coming around to accept that fear is simply a job condition of working now, and things could always take a turn for the worse. And then they really did: on March 30, I got fired.
So questions. When our biggest fears transpire, how do we shift from pain to power? From insecurity to trust? From perpetual doubt to hope and faith? How do we keep moving forward, when we’ve been thrown very badly back?
In the last six weeks my monthly practice of reading, thinking and writing rambled way beyond what seemed reasonable to put in an email, newsletter or blog post.
Fear Lines is a little book that moves back to 1987 for a slow burn self-help hit, stands on recycled ground, digests some neuroscience, visits Patti Smith’s writing table, quotes the Bible and contemplates if evil exists. It even includes a bit on the sorry economics of funding for the arts in Canada, and there’s nothing scarier than that.
